Goa’s Junior Boys Shine in West Zone Inter-State Badminton Championships
The Goa Junior Boys team kicked off their campaign in the Yonex-Sunrise West Zone Inter-State Badminton Championships 2025 with a thrilling 2-0 victory over Madhya Pradesh, securing their spot in the semi-finals. The team’s success was led by Arjun Bhagat, who won his singles match in an intense three-game battle. The doubles pair of Aswin Mannambalath and Shaheen Cherkala Kunjutty also played a crucial role in the win, holding their nerve in a deciding game.
Goa defeated Madhya Pradesh 2-0, with Bhagat winning his singles match 21-19, 17-21, 21-19, and Mannambalath/Kunjutty winning their doubles match 21-15, 27-29, 21-19. Despite their impressive start, Goa’s Junior Boys team lost 2-0, to Chhattisgarh in the semi-finals, with Bhagat losing his singles match 19-21, 16-21, and Mannambalath/Kunjutty losing their doubles match 15-21, 10-21.
In other matches, Goa’s Men’s team showed determination but lost 3-1 to Maharashtra, with Arjun Rehani registering the lone Goa victory in singles. The Women’s Team was beaten 3-0 by Gujarat.
The championships will conclude with the finals, featuring Maharashtra vs Chhattisgarh in the men’s team championship, Gujarat vs Maharashtra in the women’s final, Chhattisgarh vs Maharashtra in the junior boys final, and Maharashtra vs Chhattisgarh in the junior girls final. The action takes place at the Indoor Stadium in Campal-Panjim from September 3 to 6.
