RG SEEK STRINGENT LAW AGAINST FILLING OF WATER BODIES
PANAJI: The Revolutionary Goan members from Nerul assisted the locals in stopping the illegal filling of water bodies and sought stringent laws to curb activities similar in nature from being carried out. After making a complaint the TCP carried out a site inspection along with the panchayat after which a stop work order was issued on October 28.
The Revolutionary Goans leader from Saligao Constituency, Rohan Kalangutkar stressed on the need to carry out conservation of water resources and rejuvenation of water bodies.
“The panchayat is fully responsible for the destruction of the water bodies in Nerul . These illegal activities are being carried out in connivance with the local elected representatives. The only way to deal with issues like these is that we remain vigilant in our respective villages,” said Rohan.
He went on to explain that this practice is rampant in some places where the owner of a waterbody deliberately dumps or encourages dumping of garbage or debris on its bank. Gradually when it gets filled up, construction is carried out at that place.
“Activities like these are a clear failure of law and order in the state where everyone thinks they can do anything and get away scot-free. We Goans need to save our water bodies from being destroyed,” signed off Rohan.
