Ferreira-backed panel sweeps Aldona panchayat, wins 7 of 11 wards
Panaji: The panel backed by Aldona Congress MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira swept the Aldona panchayat elections, emerging victorious in 7 of 11 wards.
The winning candidates from the panel are Salvador Fernandes (Ward 1), Ashwin D’Souza (Ward 2), Abhitnya Satardekar (Ward 3), Natalina Colaco (Ward 6), Babita Falkar (Ward 9), Rohan Pinto (Ward 10), and Doritha Fernandes (Ward 11).
Ferreira expressed his happiness with the results and congratulated the winning candidates.
“I thank the voters of Aldona constituency who came out in large numbers to exercise their franchise,” the MLA said.
First-time contestant Rohan Pinto said that people voted for change.
“I feel proud today. People have stood by me. I was contesting against two current sitting panch members, one who was previously a Sarpanch. It was not easy, but the results show people wanted a change and they voted for me. I promise my people that I will work with my best efforts. There will be no discrimination when it comes to development,” he said.
He also thanked Ferreira for this support.
“Development will happen with the help of our MLA in Aldona and Corjuem. I am grateful to our MLA for giving me this opportunity to contest and extending his unconditional support,” Pinto said.
