The Calangute Police team on Saturday undertook a drive against these beggars who were found at Calangute and Baga Beach and nabbed 14 beggars and homeless people, which included some women and children. All these beggars have been booked and are being produced before competent authority under Beggars Act 1972.
The menace of beggars is one of the chronic problems plaguing Goa and mostly the coastal belt where tourist from all over the world comes down to experience tourism and the Goa Police are trying its best to bit to curb this menace. On Saturday 02nd September the Calangute Police launched the drive and nabbed some beggars in the area.
Goa as a tourist destination attracts tourists from all over the world. While this is true, beggars and the homeless also find Goa a suitable place for their survival and a haven to live which creates nuisance to general as well as tourists visiting the State of Goa. The Police team will continue such drives to curb the chronic issue of beggars and the homeless in Calangute.
meanwhile reacting to the issue of the illegal shanties which are housing the beggars calangute sarpanch Joseph sequeira that It is sad to see that Calangute having so many shanties and said that they are following procedure as per sections 66 and 100 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act to make Calangute free of the begger menace in 1-2 months.
