Une loi controversée du Texas qui criminalise les entrées illégales dans cet Etat frontalier du Mexique a de nouveau été suspendue mardi 19 mars, après une décision contraire de la Cour suprême des Etats-Unis plus tôt dans la journée.
La Cour suprême américaine, à majorité conservatrice, avait levé mardi la suspension de la loi, motivant sa décision par des raisons purement procédurales. Celle-ci devait permettre provisoirement l’entrée en vigueur du texte, initialement prévue le 5 mars, mais bloquée par un tribunal fédéral de cet Etat du sud es Etats-Unis.
Mais, mardi soir, une cour d’appel fédérale a de nouveau suspendu la loi.
Partisan déclaré de Donald Trump, qui a fait du rejet de l’immigration un axe majeur de sa campagne électorale, le gouverneur républicain du Texas, Greg Abbott, défie ouvertement depuis des mois l’autorité de l’administration du président démocrate, Joe Biden. Il l’accuse d’« inaction délibérée » face à l’afflux de migrants qu’il qualifie d’« invasion ».
