Feast of Mary Immaculate Conception Celebrated with Devotion in Goa
Goa, December 9, 2024 The Feast of the Mary Immaculate Conception was celebrated with great devotion across Goa on Monday, a day later than usual, due to its coincidence with the first Sunday of Advent. This significant event in the Catholic calendar commemorates the conception of Mary, the mother of Jesus, without original sin.
Special Masses were held in churches across the state, with faithful Catholics attending in large numbers. at Panaji the solemn High mass was presided over by his eminence cardinal simao Purificaçao Fernandes while at St. Alex Church in Calangute, Bishop of the diocese of Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Alex Dias presided over the Feast Mass, alongside Parish priest of saint Alex church Fr polly Lobo and other concelebrants leading the congregation in traditional hymns, prayers and devotional activities.
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is a public holiday in Goa, and the state government had declared December 9 as a government holiday.
