I-Run Goa Marathon Attracts Over 1,450 Registrations
Panaji, December 2024: The upcoming I-Run Goa Marathon, scheduled for January 5, 2025, has garnered an impressive 1,450 registrations from runners across the state and country. Organized by the I-Help Foundation, Goa, a non-governmental organization (NGO), the event celebrates eight years of transformative work in uplifting underprivileged communities across Goa.
With the theme “Run for a Cause,” the marathon aims to raise funds for child education and women empowerment through its sub-foundations. These initiatives sponsor education, food, clothing, and sports equipment for children in 23 orphanages across Calangute and South Goa.
Since its inception in 2017, the marathon has gained immense popularity, attracting over 10,000 participants in the past five editions. Despite a two-year pause due to COVID-19 norms, the event has continued to grow, drawing runners from India and around the world.
According to Praveen Maurya, founder and spokesperson of I-Run Goa Marathon, “Besides raising funds for societal causes, the run promotes community building by encouraging regular running, helping participants build fitness, and forming running groups.”
Marathon Details
The marathon features four race categories:
1. 21 km half marathon
2. 10 km timed run
3. 5 km timed run
4. 5 km charity run
The 21 km run will commence at 5:30 AM from the Goa University ground, located next to the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Taleigao, Goa. The course will take participants to the Panjim Gymkhana and back to the starting point.
Inclusive Participation
The marathon welcomes participants from the armed forces, Goa Police, and approximately 30 para-marathon runners. The event will provide dedicated support throughout the route, including hydration points, breakfast counters, and medical assistance.
Each participant will receive a medal, certificate, T-shirt, and timing chip bib (except for the 5 km and 2 km charity run).
