Panaji Digs Deep to Prevent Monsoon Flooding

PANAJI: The capital city is being dug up once again to lay pipes and create passages (gutters) to prevent flooding during the monsoon or rainy season. The work, which was left incomplete by contractors due to heavy rain and to avoid haphazard completion of the Smart City project, is now underway.
New, larger pipes for water supply and sewerage connections, as well as utility ducts for underground power supply wires, cable wires, and earthing pipes, are being laid. Excavation of old, Portuguese-era gutters, which were clogged due to age, is being carried out on a war footing to meet the deadline before the monsoon.
The city authorities aim to make the capital city flood-free by the 2025 monsoon. To achieve this, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has resumed repair and reconstruction road work simultaneously at many spots in the city. The CCP has resumed repair and reconstruction road work, ensuring that the city’s infrastructure is strengthened and flood-resistant. The work will be finished within a record time period, before the 2025 monsoon, to provide a flood-free city to residents not only in 2025 but forever.
