GOVERNOR PILLAI LAUNCHES YEAR-LONG CELEBRATIONS TO MARK 10 YEARS OF BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO SCHEME
Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula – In a significant event, Governor Shri. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai inaugurated the year-long celebrations to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula.
The event, organized by the Directorate of Women & Child Development, Goa, was attended by Health Minister Shri. Vishwajit P Rane, Health Secretary Shri Arun Kumar Mishra, IAS, Collector North Dr. Sneha Gitte, IAS, and other prominent officials.
In his address, Governor Pillai emphasized the importance of the scheme in promoting girls’ education and empowerment. He highlighted the significant progress made by the state of Goa in improving the child sex ratio and reducing gender-based disparities.
The year-long celebrations will include a series of events, workshops, and awareness programs focused on girls’ education, health, and empowerment. The initiative aims to engage stakeholders, including government officials, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders, to promote the welfare and development of girls and women in Goa.
The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme has been instrumental in addressing the declining child sex ratio and promoting gender equality in India. Over the past decade, the initiative has led to a significant improvement in the national sex ratio at birth, rising from 918 in 2014-15 to 930 in 2023-24.
The celebrations will culminate on International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, with a grand event featuring inspiring stories of women achievers, cultural performances, and awards for outstanding contributions to girls’ education and empowerment.
