GOA TAKES STEPS TO PRESERVE KHAZAN LANDS: ENVIRONMENT MINISTER INAUGURATES TRAINING SESSION
Panaji, Goa – Environment Minister Shri. Aleixo Sequeira inaugurated a one-day training session on the Khazans of Goa, organized by the Department of Environment & Climate Change at Patto Panaji. The session, held in collaboration with the Khazan Society of Goa, aimed to create awareness among department staff and other stakeholders on the importance of preserving these unique ecosystems ¹
Khazans, traditional farming systems in Goa, are facing threats from urbanization and climate change. The training session emphasized the need for sustainable management practices to preserve these ecosystems, which support livelihoods through agriculture and aquaculture.
The Department of Environment & Climate Change, in collaboration with other stakeholders, is working towards developing strategies for the conservation and sustainable management of khazans. This initiative is a step towards safeguarding Goa’s unique heritage and ensuring a sustainable future for its communities.
By promoting awareness and training, Goa is taking proactive steps to protect its khazan lands, which are not only crucial for the state’s ecosystem but also its cultural identity.
