Panaji’s Main Trunk Sewer Line Project Reaches Milestone
Panaji, March 7, 2025:
The crucial sewerage project connecting St. Inez Junction to the Tonca Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has achieved a significant milestone. The initial 12 meters of the 200-meter main trunk sewerage pipeline have been successfully installed near Taad Maad Temple.
This phase marks a crucial step in integrating the sewerage system from Taad Maad Temple to the STP Bridge in Tonca, covering a 200-meter stretch. The project involves installing a 710-mm diameter sewerage trunk line, constructing manholes, house connection chambers, utility chambers, ducts, essential crossings, and developing a concrete road with footpaths.

Despite facing challenges such as existing utility lines, loose soil conditions, and a high water table, engineers have adapted their approach to ensure smooth execution. Comprehensive shoring has been implemented to reinforce excavation sites, with necessary precautions in place to prevent structural risks.
Addressing recent concerns and misreports, officials clarified that no retaining walls have collapsed, and the shrine at St. Inez and the nearby banyan tree remain unaffected.
The project continues to progress steadily, with safety and efficiency as top priorities. With the completion of this phase, Panaji’s sewerage infrastructure is expected to receive long-term benefits.
