“Goan Players Shine at UK’s Prestigious International Carrom Tournament”
-Panaji: The Goan Sports Club UK, in collaboration with the United Kingdom Carrom Federation, recently hosted a thrilling International Carrom Tournament that showcased exceptional talent from around the world. The tournament, held at The Social Sports Bar in Hounslow Market Place, drew over 40 players from three different nationalities, competing in Singles and Doubles categories.
A standout feature of the tournament was the impressive performance of Goan players, who represented with pride and passion. Among them, Rose Rebello (Maina Curtorim) and Khader Xec (Chinchinim) put up a strong fight in the Doubles category, narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals. John D’Cunha (Taleigao) and his partner Natwarsingh, however, advanced to the finals, where they finished as runners-up after a closely contested match against the UK’s top duo, Sufiyan Chicktey and Ish Kumar.
In the Singles category, Sufiyan Chicktey dominated the competition, claiming the champion title after defeating Prashant Pangare in the final. The tournament concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where awards were presented by Sanrose D’Costa and Joshua Vas of the Goan Sports Club UK.
The event highlighted the growing popularity of carrom in the UK and the significant role played by the Goan community in promoting the sport. With talented players like John D’Cunha and Rose Rebello making their mark, Goan carrom enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to future tournaments.
