FDA Cracks Down on Unsafe Food at Mapusa Interstate Bus Stand
The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Goa conducted a surprise inspection at the Mapusa Interstate Bus Stand, seizing unsafe food articles and shutting down establishments operating under unhygienic conditions. This enforcement drive is part of the FDA’s ongoing efforts to ensure food safety across the state.
The FDA team detained several food consignments, including 25 kg of fruit puree, 10 boxes of near-expiry chocolates, energy drinks with improper labeling, and unlabelled fried onions. One restaurant within the Mapusa bus stand premises was shut down for operating under unhygienic conditions, posing a health risk to the public. Additionally, two food units were ordered to cease operations due to major food safety violations in a recent inspection.
A distributor was fined Rs 5,000 for operating without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration.
“The FDA is committed to ensuring that all food consumed by the people of Goa is safe and meets the highest hygiene standards,” said FDA Director. The agency will continue conducting regular inspections and strict enforcement to protect public health.
