Sweden’s Robin Hanson Notches First Sub-1:46 200 Free Of His Career
Robin Hanson made waves at the Swedish Championships, shattering the national record in the 200m freestyle with a stunning time of 1:45.91. The 24-year-old’s impressive performance earned him gold, while Victor Johansson claimed silver and his brother Rasmus Hanson took bronze.
Hanson’s record-breaking time bettered the previous record of 1:46.50 by over half a second, despite challenging conditions with strong winds. SVT commentator Niklas Nord praised Hanson’s achievement, exclaiming, “It’s a world-class time, a crush!”
After the race, Hanson shared his thoughts on his record-breaking performance: “I got really tired in the last 45 seconds, so I thought it might be a time over 1:46. But when I saw the audience in the last 25 seconds, I felt a surge of energy and it went awesome.” He credited his outdoor training for giving him confidence ahead of the World Championship.
This isn’t Hanson’s first impressive feat – earlier in the Swedish Championship week, he also claimed gold in the 100m freestyle with a time of 49.03. With his recent achievements, Hanson is poised to make a strong showing at the World Championship ¹
