Panaji Police Struggle with Inadequate Shelter Amidst Assembly Sessions”
PANAJI: The temporary tarpaulin shed erected on the face of the Old Mandovi Bridge at Panaji side for the security personnel during ongoing Assembly Session to keep themselves away from windy and torrential rain and sweltering heat of the summer season is insufficient.
Even the chairs are insufficient to rest as they have to be on their toes for hours together from the beginning of the Assembly Session in the morning till the end of the session in the evening or sometimes till late in the evening.
The temporary tarpaulin shed has no protection from any side since the Goan rain lashes and pounds the small state from all directions and the police personnel get drenched in the bargain. If they try to move in one direction, the gusty wind blows from other directions and they get half-drench or soaked in the rain by the time the assembly session ends.
The main purpose of the plastic tarpaulin is to protect these security personnel from heavy, gusty and torrential rains besides protecting these security platoons from sweltering hot summer but the tragedy is that they cannot protect themselves either from gusty winds and torrential rains right now.
They return home either shivering with completely wet clothes in the night as there are female police personnels also posted at the spot having college and school going children. Authorities should take note of this inconvenience to the police personnel and immediately do something to save these security personnel from losing faith in the department.
