Unpacking Colonialism and Religion in the South Asian Context: Historian Manu Pillai in Conversation with Seema Mustafa

Panaji, August 2025: The Museum of Goa (MOG) presents a thought-provoking conversation between acclaimed historian and author Manu S. Pillai and senior journalist Seema Mustafa, former  President of the Editors Guild of India. Titled ‘Faith Lines: Syncretism, Conflict and the Stories We Tell’, the talk explores how religion has both united and divided the subcontinent across centuries.

Seema Mustafa, a veteran journalist known for her fearless reporting and commitment to secularism, brings decades of experience covering the intersection of politics, identity and civil rights in India. Manu S. Pillai, one of India’s most compelling young historians, is celebrated for his vivid retelling of Indian history through a lens that is both accessible and rigorously researched. In an age of polarised identities, this dialogue will ask: what can the past teach us about building a more inclusive future?

Books by both speakers will be available for sale at the event, courtesy of the Literati Bookstore.
