“Dr. Pramod Sawant Honours Goan Cinema at Goa State Film Festival”
The Goa State Film Festival 2025 came to a close with a grand ceremony at Kala Academy, Panaji, on August 17, 2025. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant graced the occasion, presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to renowned theatre and film actress Smt. Varsha Usgaonkar. This prestigious award recognizes Usgaonkar’s dedication, versatility, and passion for cinema and theatre, which have enriched the Indian cultural landscape and brought pride to her home state of Goa.
During the ceremony, a special recognition was conferred upon Late Baba Naik for his invaluable contribution to preserving and enriching the legacy of Goan cinema. This gesture highlights the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of individuals who have played a significant role in shaping the state’s cinematic heritage.
The Goa State Film Festival 2025 showcased 19 feature films and 4 non-feature films in Konkani and Marathi, offering a platform for local talent to shine. The festival also included masterclasses, workshops, and interactive sessions, providing opportunities for aspiring filmmakers to learn and grow.
