“Goa Politics Sees Dramatic Turn: Kamat Returns, Tawadkar Takes Oath as Cabinet Ministers”

Goa’s political landscape has witnessed a significant development with the swearing-in of Digambar Kamat and Ramesh Tawadkar as Ministers in the state cabinet led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju administered the oath of office and secrecy to the duo at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula.

-Kamat, a former Chief Minister of Goa, made a significant comeback in state politics, having previously served as Chief Minister from 2007 to 2012 under a Congress-led government before joining the BJP in 2022.

Tawadkar resigned as Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly to join the cabinet, citing party directives as the reason for his decision. He had served as Speaker since March 2022 and was instrumental in initiatives like ‘Shram Dham’, which provides housing for the poor and needy.

The swearing-in ceremony is part of a cabinet reshuffle prompted by Minister Aleixo Sequeira’s resignation due to personal reasons and the existing vacancy created after Govind Gaude was dropped from the cabinet in June.

The induction of Kamat and Tawadkar is seen as the BJP’s effort to strengthen its team in the state and consolidate its position in Goa’s dynamic political environment ¹ ².
