Mahila Congress marks Rajiv Gandhi Jayanti with ‘Priyadarshini Udaan’ — A Step Towards Women’s Health and Empowerment
PANAJI: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Shri Rajiv Gandhi ji, the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a Sanitary Napkin Distribution Drive under the “Priyadarshini Udaan” initiative of the All India Mahila Congress at Curti, Ponda. The program was conducted with the aim of upholding women’s health, hygiene, and dignity, while also commemorating the legacy of a leader who transformed India with his progressive vision.
The initiative was led by South District President, Mamata Maben, who ensured its smooth execution at short notice. The event also featured a thought-provoking address by Guest of Honour, Dr. Nabila Shaikh, who educated women on menstrual health, the menstrual cycle, related health conditions, and the importance of nutrition in maintaining overall well-being.
Chief Guest, Shri Rajesh Verenkar (General Secretary, GPCC), highlighted Shri Rajiv Gandhi ji’s immense contribution to the nation’s development and reminded women of the importance of giving priority to their health and hygiene amidst daily responsibilities.
State President of the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress, Dr. Pratiksha Khalap, underscored the visionary leadership of Late Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Shri Rajiv Gandhi ji in advancing women’s empowerment through historic initiatives such as 33% reservation for women and the Panchayati Raj system. She elaborated on the “Priyadarshini Udaan” initiative, first launched in Goa from the Ponda constituency, which will soon be extended to other constituencies across the state.
This nationwide initiative, launched by the All India Mahila Congress under the leadership of Alka Lamba ji, ensures the distribution of sanitary napkins manufactured by women workers trained and equipped by AIMC. The project not only provides access to affordable and hygienic alternatives for women but also creates meaningful employment opportunities for women across the country, embodying the Congress Party’s commitment to empowerment through dignity of work.
