Demand to hike minimum support price for farmers under govt consideration: Aldona MLA
Panaji: Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira said that the demand to increase the minimum support price for farmers is under government consideration at an advanced stage.
Ferreira had raised the issue in the Assembly.
“I had spoken in assembly about the need to increase the minimum support price for farmers. I have been told that it is still under consideration to increase it, and is yet to be finalised. The notification is yet to come,” he said.
Ferreira also responded to accusations of neglecting farmers in his constituency.
“There was some issue of the farmers in Quitla. There was an accusation in a video that was circulated on social media that I never went to address their issues. In fact I came as soon as I got to know about it. However, I was not informed by anyone about it, nor called by the person named Vithal from Nachinola who called reporters without even calling me and recorded a video falsely accusing me of neglecting the farmers’ problem. He has no field in Quitla, but he is the Preisdent of the Nachinola Farmers’ Club. He is welcome as the President but at least if I was informed I could have come and sorted out any issue,” the MLA clarified.
Farmers who were present stated that they had no complaints and were happy with the mechanised harvesting done
