Almeida boom defeated Jacknim eagles 5-4 vie tie breaker to emerge winners of the finals of the parra Panchayat interward football tournament played at PVC ground parra on Saturday
The first half started on a fast pace with some good attacking football with jacknim eagles keeping good possession of the ball and making deep runs into the defence of Almeida boom this good attacking style of play and constant movement of the strikers into the defence helped their strikers to score the first goal taking advantage of the defensive blunders by the Jacknim eagles although jacknim eagles tried hard to get the equaliser their attempts on goal proved futile as they could not manage to score some defensive blunders and sloppy defending by jacknim eagles gave another advantage to almeida boom and they managed to score the another goal giving them a 2 goal lead in the first half and first half ended with Almeida boom leading
In the second half it was again full dominance by Almeida boom as their strikers found some great form and they tried making deep runs into the resilient defence of Jacknim eagles but they could not manage to score and jacknim eagles took full advantage of the defensive strategy keeping a strong formation in the defence and they managed to score their first goal in the second half the goal boosted the morale of the jacknim eagles and their strikers made deep runs into the Almeida boom defense and their strikers managed to score the second goal from a long distant shot which neatly beat the goalkeeper as the ball curled into the net and they found the equaliser Almeida boom strikers again managed to make deep runs into the Jacknim defence but some good goalkeeping by the almeida boom goalkeeper blocked their attempts on Goal and the match ended with both teams locked 2-2 till full time and the match had to be decided on spot kicks. In the tie breaker the Almeida boom strikers were at their best with neatly taken spot kicks beating their rival goal keeper and sending the goal keeper in the wrong direction and they finally won the match.
Calangute MLA Michael lobo was the chief guest while siolim MLA Delilah lobo was the guest of honour special invitees included Fr Peter Gama PI of calangute police station Dattagurur sawant attorney of parra communidade Benedict D’souza and others . Jerry lobo an international player from Cambodia was a real thrill to watch at the match the Best striker of the tournament was awarded to veron Pereira from bokache arradi while the Best discipline team award was bagged by gama and arradi the Best midfielder award was bagged by Claudio pachecho. The match saw a good turnout of spectators as the ground was packed with supporters
“We got to witness a very good game here today and jacknim vaddo who were still behind came from nowhere to equalize and take the match into penalty the spectators were kept guessing as to which team will win together and we were also guessing as to who is going to win as both the teams were locked 2-2 and it was finally almeida vaddo which emerged victorious as usual” said lobo
