CONGRESS HAILS HIGH COURT VERDICT AS “MAJOR BLOW” TO BJP’S LAND GRAB AGENDA IN GOA
In a significant victory for the people of Goa, the High Court has struck down the BJP government’s attempt to amend Section 17(2) of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act. The Congress party, which has been at the forefront of the opposition against the BJP’s land policies, welcomed the verdict as a “major blow” to the ruling party’s efforts to favor land mafias and industrialists.
“The High Court’s decision is a testament to the power of public resistance and a slap in the face for the BJP government, which has been systematically diluting laws meant to protect Goa’s natural heritage,” said General secretary GPCC Shri VIJAY L Bhike
The verdict is a significant setback for the BJP government, which has been accused of trying to manipulate land laws to benefit private interests. The proposed amendment would have allowed the government to auction off land to private interests, bypassing environmental regulations and ignoring the concerns of local communities’ said Vice President Youth congress Vivek Disilva
The Congress party has strongly condemned the government’s anti-people policies and called for the immediate resignation of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister. “The BJP government has been working in favor of land mafias and industrialists, rather than protecting the interests of Goans,” said President NGDCC Virendra shirodkar .
