Panaji: Under the BJP government since 2014, farmers in the country have received a lot of benefits through various schemes, including maximum support price, said Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Krishi Setu at Cumbarjua on Saturday.
Also present were Goa Rehabilitation Board Chairman and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai, Cumbarjua sarpanch Nandakumar Shet, farmers and other dignitaries.
The bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crores by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). It spans 50 metres in length and 3.5 metres in width.
Sawant said that the bridge will benefit farmers of Cumbarjua to take their tractors to the fields. He also said that the bridge is a testimony to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve issues of farmers across the country.
“We have 4 sethus – Atal Setu, Gyaan Setu, Yog Setu and now Krishi Setu. The cost of this bridge will be recovered only when the farmers bring home a yield of Rs 3 crores. The farmers should also engage in the farming of multiple crops. With this bridge, there will also be scope for marriage photography due to the scenic view of this place. Tourists can also get attracted to the mangroves and the environment. There are also crocodiles that could also be an attraction,” he said.
“Our country is atmanirbhar and swayampurna under the leadership of the Prime Minister. The youth should take up agriculture, pisciculture, dairy farming and horticulture. It is a big economy. An agriculture college is coming up in this constituency. This will help the students A veterinary as well as fisheries college will also be set up in the state. Like this, we are focussing on such things to make the state swayampurna. We need your support,” he added.
In his address, Faldessai thanked the chief minister for sanctioning various development works in Cumbarjua constituency.
He also urged the CM to take up the work on 2 other bridges as well as a road.
“The CM has never said no to our requests. He has always supported us in cultivating our fields. Our youth must be urged to take up farming. Many fields are fallow. Our PM and CM are urging everyone to cultivate fields,” he said.
Shet said that the bridge will benefit 62 farmers who have fields spread across 3 lakh square metres.
“Due to this bridge, land which was fallow will now be revived. It was a long pending demand by the farmers. The bridge has become a reality due to our chief minister and our MLA. I urge the youth to take up activities like agriculture to earn a livelihood and earn a name for themselves. I thank the CM. We have no fear when we have the CM’s support. He is working along with our MLA to usher in development. GSIDC is a cornerstone of Goa’s development and the state’s future. The BJP government is working for the farmers,” he said.
Shet said that the bridge also has solar panels.
“Our Prime Minister is focussing on solar power. with the government providing around 60 % subsidy. So even if there is no power supply, the lights on the bridge will work at night,” he added.
