Calangute constituency forum demands stern action against concrete slab covering storm water drain (Nalla) in village of Arpora

.

Calangute:  calangute constituency forum has demanded with the authorities to take action against concrete slab covering a storm water drain (Nalla) in the property bearing Survey No. 135/24 of Village Arpora opposite to the office of Village Panchayat Arpora Nagoa.

According to CCF the said illegal construction of concrete slab on Nalla/Storm Water Drain is done by KPD Developers in a Communidade property without any approval or NOC from the concerned Authorities.

“on 27/04/2024, We observed construction workers installing a concrete slab over the storm water drain towards western side of main road opposite to the office of Village Panchayat Arpora Nagoa. This illegal action not only violates Panchayat regulations and TCP rules, but also poses significant risks to our community’s safety and environmental well-being”said president of the forum Prem divkar

The forum has pointed out the issues resulting from this illegal construction namely

Blockage of Storm Water Drain: The concrete slab covering the storm water drain obstructs the natural flow of rainwater, leading to potential flooding during heavy rainfall. This blockage could result in property damage and endanger the safety of residents in the area.

  1. Environmental Degradation: Storm water drains play a crucial role in preventing water logging and maintaining ecological balance. By covering the drain, the natural ecosystem is disrupted, potentially causing harm to aquatic life and leading to long-term environmental degradation.
  2. Violation of Panchayat Regulations and TCP Rules: The construction of any structure over storm water drains without proper authorization is a clear violation of Panchayat laws and regulations and TCP Rules. Such actions undermine the integrity of planning efforts and disregard the safety and well-being of residents.

We appeal to your good authority to take immediate action to address this issue. Specifically, We request the following actions be taken:

  1. Conduct an inspection of the site to verify the reported illegal construction.
  2. Issue a notice to the responsible parties to cease all unauthorized activities and remove the concrete slab covering the storm water drain.
  3. Impose penalties and fines on the individuals or entities responsible for the illegal construction, in accordance with local laws and regulations.
  4. Take measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future by enhancing monitoring and enforcement efforts.

“As a concerned NGO, we are committed to ensuring the preservation of our environment and the safety of our neighborhoods. We trust that prompt action will be taken to rectify this situation and uphold the principles of environmental conservation” Prem divkar further said
