Postpone deadline, waive off fee for Aadhaar-PAN linking, Ferreira urges Sitharaman

Aldona: Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira has appealed to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to postpone the deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN card and waive off the fee of Rs 1,000 being imposed for completing the formalities.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Ferreira stated that the 31 March, 2023 cutoff date for completing the process is causing great concern among citizens across the country, including Goa.
He pointed out that many citizens are yet to complete the process due to numerous reasons.
“Several people who were not required to obtain PAN card were forced by banks to do so despite not falling above the income limit for those who are required to make the card,” he stated.
Ferreira also said that in the process to make the PAN card, many persons have found that their names mismatch with names on their Aadhar cards, due to which they are unable to link Aadhaar with PAN.
“The PAN card name correction is taking a long time, whilst the Aadhaar centres are flooded with requests, forcing them to give appointments for the change in name to April, which is beyond the deadline of 31 March. The online portal for correction of Aadhaar details is not permitting the booking of slots for appointment at Aadhaar enrolment centres,” he said.
The Aldona MLA urged the Union Finance Minister to withdraw the Rs 1,000 fee for linking Aadhaar to PAN.
